NATURALIA ARTIFICIALIA: IL REGNO IBRIDO DELL’ARTE

La terra respira. Dal ritmico salire e scendere delle maree alle invisibili correnti del vento che modellano i paesaggi, dal sussurro delle foglie al pulsare del respiro umano, la vita è una danza di forze invisibili.

Che cosa succede quando le macchine imparano i modelli delle onde, quando gli algoritmi imitano la crescita dei coralli e gli organismi sintetici pulsano a tempo con il respiro della Terra, assistiamo ad un’estensione della Natura o alla sua reinvenzione?

Naturalia Artificialia: Il Regno ibrido dell’arte diventa il luogo dove organico ed artificiale si fondono e gli artisti, chiamati ad esporre, esplorano le intersezioni tra filosofia antica, simulazione e la fragile meraviglia del mondo naturale.

Significato e contesto per la mostra

NATURALIA

Il termine ‘naturalia’ si riferisce a oggetti, fenomeni ed elementi che esistono in natura senza intervento umano e che la natura stessa ha creato attraverso i propri processi spontanei.

Nel contesto storico, ‘naturalia’ erano oggetti da collezione naturali nelle Wunderkammern (Camere delle meraviglie) rinascimentali, dove venivano esposti esemplari rari e straordinari del mondo naturale.

ARTIFICIALIA

‘Artificialia’ indica, invece, tutto ciò che è stato creato, modificato o trasformato dall’intervento umano. Si tratta del prodotto dell’ingegno, dell’abilità tecnica e della creatività dell’uomo.

Narrativa della mostra

In un mondo in continua evoluzione, dove i confini tra natura e artificio si fanno sempre più sfumati, la mostra Naturalia Artificialia invita gli artisti a esplorare questa ancestrale dicotomia attraverso un dialogo contemporaneo tra ciò che esiste spontaneamente e ciò che viene creato dalla mano umana.

Fin dal Rinascimento, con le sue Wunderkammern che raccoglievano sia meraviglie naturali che manufatti, l’umanità ha cercato di comprendere il proprio posto nell’ordine cosmico attraverso questa distinzione fondamentale. Oggi, in un’epoca di cambiamenti climatici, biotecnologie e nuovi materiali, tale riflessione acquista rinnovata urgenza e significato.

Gli artisti sono invitati a presentare opere che interroghino, reinterpretino o trascendano la relazione tra l’organico e l’inorganico, la crescita spontanea e la progettazione intenzionale, l’effimero naturale e la permanenza artificiale, la perfezione imperfetta della natura e l’imperfezione perfetta dell’arte.

Le opere possono esplorare come la natura diventi fonte d’ispirazione per l’arte, come l’arte imiti o trasformi la natura o come entrambe siano in grado di fondersi in nuove forme ibride. Possono riflettere su come i materiali naturali vengano trasformati dall’intervento artistico o su come elementi artificiali assumano qualità organiche.

Naturalia Artificialia non cerca semplicemente di contrapporre due mondi, ma di rivelare le complesse interconnessioni, le zone di confine e le trasformazioni reciproche che caratterizzano la nostra esperienza del mondo. I lavori esposti stimolano una riflessione profonda sulla nostra relazione con l’ambiente naturale e con gli oggetti culturali che creiamo, in un momento storico in cui questa distinzione è contemporaneamente più sfumata e più significativa che mai, si tratta dunque di un’esplorazione collettiva del dialogo tra ciò che la natura genera e ciò che l’ingegno umano crea.

What happens when machines learn the patterns of waves, when algorithms imitate the growth of corals and synthetic organisms pulse in time with the Earth's breath? Are we witnessing an extension of Nature or its reinvention?

Naturalia Artificialia: The Hybrid Realm of Art becomes the place where organic and artificial merge and artists, called upon to exhibit, explore the intersections between ancient philosophy, simulation and the fragile wonder of the natural world.

Meaning and context for the exhibition

NATURALIA

The term ‘naturalia’ refers to objects, phenomena and elements that exist in nature without human intervention and that nature itself has created through its own spontaneous processes.

In a historical context, ‘naturalia’ were natural collectible objects in Renaissance Wunderkammern (Cabinets of wonders), where rare and extraordinary specimens of the natural world were displayed.

ARTIFICIALIA

'Artificialia' means, on the other hand, everything that has been created, modified or transformed by human intervention. These are products of human ingenuity, technical skill and creativity.

Exhibition Narrative

In an ever-changing world where the boundaries between nature and artifice are becoming increasingly blurred, the Naturalia Artificialia exhibition invites artists to explore this ancestral dichotomy through a contemporary dialogue between what exists spontaneously and what is created by the human hand.

Since the Renaissance, with its Wunderkammern that collected both natural wonders and artifacts, humanity has sought to understand its place in the cosmic order through this fundamental distinction. Today, in an era of climate change, biotechnologies and new materials, such reflection acquires renewed urgency and meaning.

Artists are invited to present works that question, reinterpret or transcend the relationship between the organic and the inorganic, spontaneous growth and intentional design, natural ephemerality and artificial permanence, the imperfect perfection of nature and the perfect imperfection of art.

The works can explore how nature becomes a source of inspiration for art, how art imitates or transforms nature, or how both are able to merge into new hybrid forms. They can reflect on how natural materials are transformed by artistic intervention or how artificial elements take on organic qualities.

Naturalia Artificialia does not simply seek to contrast two worlds, but to reveal the complex interconnections, boundary zones and mutual transformations that characterize our experience of the world. The exhibited works stimulate a deep reflection on our relationship with the natural environment and with the cultural objects we create, at a historical period when this distinction is simultaneously more blurred and more significant than ever. It is therefore a collective exploration of the dialogue between what nature generates and what human ingenuity creates.
